Artist Statement.
My work is an exploration of metals, both new and found, distressed, shaped and welded into decorative and/or useful objects. Life-long interests in science, science fiction, past lives, Atlantis, time and space travel, all contribute to artworks with a spiritual and mystical quality that simultaneously suggest antiquity as well as a distant future.

Most artworks are colored through the natural tones produced by the welding process, and when colored through paint or patina, are still created to appear ancient, as if the color had partially worn off or faded over time, or as if an unknown society left them behind. Copper, in its natural form, exhibits a wide range of handsome colors when heated with varying types of welding torches. Previously found and painted steel acquires intriguing colors through torching, to reveal undercoats of other colors, as well as charred areas. Brass brazing rod, used to join metals in some pieces, produces a gold quality and hints of a long-ago land of riches.
